DOH records a 5% 'drop' in daily Covid-19 infections

The Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday, Oct. 31, that 1,088 new Covid-19 cases were recorded from Oct. 23 to 29.

The Health Department noted that these cases showed a five percent "drop" with an average daily count of 155 cases compared to the previous week or from Oct. 16 to 22.


Based on the latest data, 10 of the newly reported cases have been classified as "severe” or “critical.”


The DOH stated that there have been 13 deaths recorded; 10 occurred between Oct. 16 and Oct. 29.


It was also reported that hospitals across the country had admitted a total of 259 severe and critical Covid-19 patients for treatment.


Of the 1,462 ICU beds designated for Covid-19 patients, 160 of them, or 10.9 percent, are currently occupied.


DOH also noted that 1,985 out of 12,494 non-ICU Covid-19 beds, constituting 15.9 percent, are also in use.


The department urged the public to remain vigilant in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 threat.


It emphasized the importance of adhering to public health standards, such as wearing masks, seeking well-ventilated areas, and being isolated immediately if symptomatic under Alert Level 1.


Moreover, DOH reported that approximately 78 million people in the country had received Covid-19 vaccinations, exceeding the target population by 100.44 percent. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
