House Speaker Martin Romualdez is not the type to bask in glory on his own.
On Monday, Oct. 30, Romualdez deflected credit from his lofty trust and satisfaction ratings and instead lauded the collective effort of the House of Representatives.
"These ratings are not just numbers. They mirror the dedication and teamwork of the hardworking members of the House. Every decision made, every bill passed, is a result of our united efforts to serve the Filipino people," Romualdez, the leader of the 300-plus strong chamber, said in a statement.
"Our focus remains on addressing the pressing issues that affect our countrymen and ensuring that we remain transparent, accountable, and responsive to their needs," added the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president.
Romualdez gave these remarks following the release of the results of an OCTA survey comducted from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4. It showed that the Leyte 1st district representative had a trust rating of 60 percent and a satisfaction rating of 61 percent.
When compared year-on-year (2022 vs. 2023), the trust figures showed a massive jump of 22 percentage points (from 38 percent during the same period). On the other hand, the satisfaction figures showed an equally impressive increase of 17 percentage points (from 44 percent).
At any rate, Romualdez said surveys serve as an invaluable tool of governance. "Surveys like OCTA’s are more than just statistics. They are indicative of the people's sentiments on pressing issues, providing us with insights that are crucial in shaping our legislative priorities."
Recognizing the importance of the public's voice, he added, "We view these feedback mechanisms as essential guides. They help us align our legislative work with the needs and aspirations of the Filipinos."
