Police: Davao region BSKE peaceful

DAVAO CITY – The barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) in the Davao region on Monday, October 30, was “generally peaceful,” police said.

Police Major Catherine dela Rey, Police Regional Office-Davao spokesperson, said that no election-related violence was reported in barangays in the region.

Polling centers simultaneously opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 3 p.m.

“As of this time, after casting of votes ended, the electoral process in Davao region was generally peaceful, without any election untoward incident,” Dela Rey said.

She said 7,500 uniformed personnel were deployed to barangays in the region to secure schools and voters.

Police Capt. Hazel Tuazon, Davao City Police Office spokesperson, said that based on assessment, the BSKE in 182 barangays here was “peaceful and normal,” with no election-related incidents reported in 265 precincts.

Personnel from the Commission on Elections-Davao inspected various voting centers in this city to ensure they were operating smoothly.

A liquor ban was strictly enforced in the Davao region from October 29 to 30 pursuant to Comelec Resolution 10924 which prohibits the “sale, purchase, serving, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places.”

“The primary purpose of the liquor ban during elections is to maintain the integrity of the electoral process. By preventing incidents of violence, vote-buying, and undue influence related to alcohol consumption, the government aims to create a peaceful and fair environment for voters to express their choices,” the PRO-11 said.
