Voters cite efficient precinct finders, fast lines in cities of San Juan, Makati, Mandaluyong
Voters in the cities of San Juan, Makati, and Mandaluyong expressed their satisfaction for the fast and efficient voting process during the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections 2023 (BSKE 2023) on Monday, Oct. 30.
San Juan City
In San Juan City, voters started to line up as early as 6 a.m. at Xavier School to cast their votes.
As part of San Juan's preparation for the polls, the city government said it would make sure that all voters will be comfortable as they wait to cast their votes.
Xavier School officials and the city's law enforcement agencies have also been deployed to maintain order at the polling center.
Aside from a precinct finder stall set up at each school gate, several bulletin boards containing the precinct numbers of voters are displayed in the school to help individuals look for their designated polling precincts.
In an interview with Manila Bulletin, senior citizen voter Roland aired his satisfaction during his voting.
"Napakabilis po ng proseso tsaka hindi po nakakalito kasi bawat kanto may paskil ng mga presinto. Madami ding bentilador kaya preskong presko po sa botohan (The process is very quick and not confusing because there are bulletins and guides on each corner of the school showing each precincts' location. There are also a lot of electric fans which makes voting much comfortable)," Roland said.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora also voted in Xavier School where he reminded the public to be responsible in voting.
Makati City
In Makati City, voters, especially senior citizens, also lauded the voting system at Nemesio Yabut Elementary School in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo.
Lola Antonina, a 72-year-old Makatizen, said the voting system in the school was very convenient for senior citizens because of the establishment of special voting areas on the ground floor of the school dedicated for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD).
"Mabilis kasi sa baba lang kami boboto tsaka madami ding tumutulong sakin (Voting was fast because we (senior citizens) will just have to vote at the ground floor. There are also a lot of poll officers who assisted me)," she explained.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay and her husband, Makati City 2nd Disrict Rep. Luis Campos, cast their votes at the said school.
Mandaluyong City
In the city of Mandaluyong, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos with his wife, Mandaluyong City Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos, cast their votes at Highway Hills Integrated School in Barangay Highway Hills as he pointed out that ensuring a fraud-free and credible elections is a greater responsibility of the voters than just merely casting their votes.
"The greater effort sa araw na ito is from every one of us na boboto (voters). If you see na may nandaraya, i-report niyo kaagad. Ipakita natin sa buong mundo na tahimik at maayos ang botohan sa ating bansa (If you see cheating, report it right away. Let's show to the world that the election in our country is peaceful and orderly)," Abalos said.
Reiterating his message against vote-buying, Abalos said that the electorate must consider that barangay leaders will be key to the efficient and effective delivery of basic services in their respective communities for the next three years.
"Huwag kayong magpadala sa pera. Kung sa tingin ninyo ang kandidatong ito ay hindi karapat-dapat, huwag ninyong iboto (Don't be deceived by money. If you think this candidate is not worth it, then don't vote for him/her)," the secretary said.
He also commended the Philippine National Police (PNP) for effectively maintaining peace and order throughout the country on the days leading to the BSKE.
He said the pro-active actions of the PNP and its coordination with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) resulted in creating a generally peaceful situation throughout the nation.
Residents who voted at the school also noted the efficiency of the voting process.
