Shawn Umali delivered in crunchtime as Lyceum fended off San Sebastian, 83-72, to remain unbeaten in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Holding a slim 74-72 lead in the final three minutes of the game, Umali knocked down the last six points to help the Pirates get the separation they needed en route to their fourth win in as many games.
John Barba, who played a key role in the final frame, topscored for Lyceum with 20 points, while Umali poured an all-around effort of 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and four blocks. Mclaude Guadana and John Brave added 10 points each.
After the teams engaged in a close battle in the opening period, the Pirates uncorked a 7-1 run to end the second quarter and carry a 43-35 lead at the break.
Alex Desoyo, Rafael Are and Regg Gabat then rallied the Golden Stags to a fightback in the third and take the driver's seat, 51-47. But behind the efforts of Barba and Bravo, the Pirates would regain the lead again and preserve it until the end.
Are led San Sebastian with 15 points while Gabat and Desoyo had 13 and 11 points, respectively, as the Golden Stags fell to a 1-2 record.
