Coordination between the Philippine and Saudi governments is already ongoing after the death of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was stabbed fatally in the Kingdom.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary Paul Cortes said the Philippine government is just waiting for the conclusion of the probe into the incident and the release of necessary papers so it can process the repatriation of the remains of the slain worker Marjorette Garcia.
Meanwhile, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is already coordinating with Garcia's family and her recruitment agency following her killing, Cortes added.
According to Cortes, Garcia was found by Saudi authorities covered by blood and with several stab wounds. She was then rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
"'Yung suspect, yung supposed perpetrator, ng krimen na ito ay nahuli na rin po ng pulis ng Saudi Arabia at under investigation na po ang kaso (The perpetrator of the crime was already arrested by Saudi police and an investigation is already ongoing)," he said in an interview with Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.
Cortes said the perpetrator, a foreigner, was believed to be Garcia's fellow worker in the Kingdom.
On Monday, DMW announced the death of Garcia, who had been deployed to Saudi since 2021.
Garcia had a husband and children, Cortes said.
"The DMW extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of OFW Marjorette. We assure them of our continuing support during their time of grief and in the ongoing investigation," DMW said.
