PNP sends 25 cops for peacekeeping mission in South Sudan

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will send 25 of its personnel to South Sudan as part of the peacekeeping commitment by the national government to the United Nations (UN).

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. said the 25 policemen were already trained and briefed on their assignment as part of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

In his message during a send-off ceremony, Acorda urged the PNP peacekeepers to serve with honor, courage, and unwavering dedication and urged them to return home safely.

“To the 25 members of the PNP contingent who are embarking on this mission, you are about to represent the PNP, our nation, and our people on an international stage,” said Acorda.

“Your journey will be arduous, filled with both triumphs and trials, but I have absolute confidence that you will carry our flag with unwavering pride and unwavering integrity,” he added.

The Philippine government has been sending teams from the police and military to be part of the UN peacekeeping mission in conflict-torn areas of the world for around 60 years now.

Around 15,000 policemen and soldiers have already been sent in various parts of the world as peacekeepers and for special political missions.
