The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is prioritizing the restoration of external services, including those accessed by employers, banks, members, and healthcare facilities, following a recent cyberattack.

Nelson S. De Vera, PhilHealth Acting Senior Manager of the Information Technology and Management Department, said on Oct. 2 that the agency has successfully resolved issues with “three out of eight” external systems.
However, progress on internal systems has been temporarily stopped as the organization dedicates its resources to addressing external vulnerabilities, he said.
“We've already provided solutions for our members and healthcare facilities, and we anticipate completing solutions for employers and additional enhancements for hospitals as per our scheduled plan,” he said.
De Vera said that PhilHealth has instructed its regional offices to conduct thorough system cleanups before reconnecting.
Regarding the overall progress of PhilHealth's system recovery since the cyberattack incident on Sept. 22, it has been confirmed by De Vera that there are no issues with the database, which remains intact.
He stressed that PhilHealth’s current focus is on restoring application servers and enabling access.
According to De Vera, the plan is to fix two more systems by Monday, Oct. 2, aiming to have five out of the eight application servers operational.
Additionally, substantial progress has been achieved in the process of restoring internal systems, as per De Vera's report.
“For internal offices, we have already installed progress systems that are at around 30 percent,” he said. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
