The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 14 kilometers beneath the epicenter, which was 13 kilometers from Batuan, Masbate.

It was felt at Intensity V (strong) in Masbate City and Milagros, Masbate, Phivolcs said.

The tremor was also felt at Intensity IV (moderately strong) in San Fernando, Masbate and Intensity III (weak) in Legazpi City, Albay and Palanas, Masbate.

Meanwhile, it was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Irosin, Sorsogon.

Phivolcs said the origin of the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

It does not expect damage or aftershocks due to this earthquake. (Lizst Torres Abello)
