At least eight machines are now fully operational in the production of license plates as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has committed to address the backlog in the soonest possible time.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said the machines are now producing 32,000 plates per day but the goal is to produce 42,000 a day once all machines, two of them are robotics, become fully operational.
“Our goal now is for all newly-bought motor vehicles and motorcycles to get their license plates within 10 days so that these new motor vehicles will no longer add to our backlog problems,” said Mendoza during the inspection on a plate-making plant.

The LTO, through the Department of Transportation, has ordered around 15 million metal plates to address around 13 million backlog for license plates, almost all of them for motorcycles and most of them are for conversion from green to white plates.
Mendoza earlier told senators that it would take them around two years to solve the backlog due to the large volume of backlog.
But he committed that the LTO would work for new vehicles to have their plates once they are bought.
Mendoza said motorists and drivers would no longer wait for months and even years to get their license plates.
Since assuming leadership of the LTO, Mendoza has diligently overseen the operations to expedite resolving the issue on backlogs of license plates and even the license cards.
