HUAWEI Mobile Services empowers airasia Superapp to deliver services to consumers

In an era of rapid globalization, many organizations from various industries had launched multiple applications to deliver different services to consumers. However, having separate apps can burden the organization that created them and the consumers using them. Multiple, discrete apps require distinct and varying levels of maintenance for the organization. Meanwhile, consumers find it cumbersome to handle different apps from the same organization on their smartphones. 

Hence, the rise of superapps.

Superapps simplify complexities by combining multiple services into one platform. Launched in Malaysia in October 2020, airasia Superapp is a one-stop travel and lifestyle platform that provides a wide range of offerings. The Superapp allows users to book flights, hotels, and transport services, make dine-in reservations, shop for duty-free goods when they travel, and so much more with just a few taps.

With the goal of expanding and reaching more consumers, airasia Superapp has partnered with HUAWEI Mobile Services (HMS). HMS aims to provide a secure and full-fledged ecosystem of mobile apps consistent across devices. HMS offers seven services: HUAWEI ID, Cloud, AppGallery, Themes, HUAWEI Video, Browser, Assistant, and HMS Core.

In 2021, airasia Superapp officially launched on HUAWEI AppGallery. One of the world's top 3 app distribution platforms, HUAWEI AppGallery serves more than 170 countries and regions. As of March 31, 2022, the number of global monthly active users has reached 580 million, with robust growth expected for the foreseeable future. HUAWEI AppGallery enables airasia Superapp to reach more users around the world.

In addition, airasia Superapp utilizes HMS Core, which offers a rich array of open device and cloud capabilities designed to stream app development, drive fast growth and flexible monetization for developers, and enable them to create innovative apps that deliver an outstanding user experience.

In Malaysia, where airasia Superapp originated, travelers previously encountered the problem of pickup location inaccuracy when booking a car via online booking car services. HMS Core was instrumental in solving the problem by facilitating the development of airasia Superapp. 

HMS Core brings tools that allow airasia Superapp to deliver precise location services, advanced map elements, and seamless navigation capabilities. These tools include HMS Core Map Kit, which provides a personalized map display and interactions that make location-based services work better for the app, and HMS Core Location Kit, which utilizes global navigation satellite system (GNSS), Wi-Fi, and base stations to triangulate user locations faster and more accurately.  

This 2023, HMS is bringing to airasia Superapp Petal Ads, which endows users ads with premium attributes and delivers them to HUAWEI device users with seamless precision. airasia Superapp uses Petal Ads for promotion and publicity, encouraging HUAWEI device users to explore more the exciting features and services of the superapp. 

Supported on a diverse range of devices and operating systems, HMS Core provides a set of open device and cloud capabilities. HMS Core has released 69 kits and over 20,000 APIs in seven domains. This dedication to the innovativeness and openness of HMS Core lays the foundation for a seamless, intelligent, all-connected future.  

HMS Core actively provides the cross-platform ecosystem and cross-OS capabilities for phones, tablets, and other devices. Supported on operating systems like Android and iOS, these capabilities are applicable to various app forms, including native apps, quick apps, and web apps.

Beginning with solving the problem frequently experienced by travelers in Malaysia, airasia Superapp is now helping travelers around the globe by providing services through one platform, and it became a possibility in partnership with HUAWEI Mobile Services. The collaboration has allowed HMS to help airasia build a better digital life for its consumers as part of Huawei’s grander vision of a Fully Connected, Intelligent World.
