PBBM, VP Sara trust, approval ratings continue to fall in Q3 2023 — survey

The trust and approval ratings of President Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte fell further in the OCTA Research’s “Third Quarter Tugon ng Masa” nationwide survey conducted from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, despite showing that a “majority” of Filipinos still trust and are satisfied with their performance.

President Marcos received a 73 percent trust rating and 65 percent approval rating in the survey results released on Oct. 29, lower than the 75 percent and 71 percent, respectively, in the second quarter survey conducted in July.

Meanwhile, 75 percent of Filipinos still trust Vice President Duterte and 70 percent are satisfied with her performance.

This is a significant decline from the 83 percent and 82 percent ratings, respectively, in July.

OCTA pointed out that the President’s trust ratings across major areas ranged from 66 to 78 percent, with his highest trust rating in the Visayas (78 percent) and his lowest in Metro Manila at 66 percent.

“Across different major areas, trust ratings of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. in NCR (National Capital Region) decreased by 15 percentage points, respectively. Meanwhile, there was an increase in his trust rating in Visayas by 15 percentage points,” it added.

The President’s trust rating across socio-economic classes ranged from 53 percent to 75 percent, with his highest trust rating belonging to class D and E at 74 and 75 percent respectively, while his lowest trust rating belonging to class ABC at 53 percent.

“By socioeconomic class, the trust rating of President Marcos Jr. significantly decreased by 10 percentage points among Filipinos belonging to Class ABC,” it pointed out.

Meanwhile, OCTA said Vice President Duterte’s trust rating ranged from 64 to 95 percent across major areas, with Mindanao having the highest at 95 percent and Balance Luzon having the lowest at 64 percent.

Her trust ratings across socioeconomic classes ranged from 59 to 79 percent, with Class E having the highest trust rating of 79 percent and Class ABC having the lowest trust rating of 59 percent, it added.

“Across all major areas, Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio’s trust rating decreased. The highest decrease is in NCR by 15 percentage points and the lowest is in Mindanao by two percentage points,” it said.

“Also, the trust rating of Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio significantly decreased by 19 percentage points among Filipinos belonging to Class ABC. The distrust rating of Vice President Duterte-Carpio increased across all major areas with the most prominent increase is by 10 percentage points among Filipinos belonging to Class ABC,” it pointed out.

The Tugon ng Masa survey fieldwork was conducted from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adult respondents nationwide.

It has a ±3 percent margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level.
