The Bicol region is set to welcome two new enforcement training institutions in a bid to further its commitment to defense and security.
One of these is the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Academy, which will rise in Legazpi, Albay.
Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co says this project promises to offer comprehensive law enforcement training for Bicolanos.
“This development initiated in March is anticipated to fortify regional and national security,” he said.
Co, the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, said Congress has allocated P250 million for this project.
Another P300 million from the currenf 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) has been allocated for the construction of a Philippine Coast Guard Academy (PCGA) in Cagraray, Bacacay, also in Albay.
“Another academy, ‘yung (the) Philippine Coast Guard Academy, pero (but) this time sa (on the) Pacific side, another development ‘yan para sa Bicol Region. (This) underscores the commitment to bolstering maritime security,” the solon said.
On top of these training institutions, Co said a facility for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will be established in the town of Estanza.
Aimed at bolstering government social welfare programs, the envisioned social welfare center is designed to support the elderly, orphans, and abused women.
Co noted that he even donated land property for the realization of this project, which he called “a longstanding need”.
"Nag-donate ako ng lupa kasi na-observe ko wala tayo sa Legazpi na facility para sa mga matatanda katulad ng Home for the Aged, wala tayong reception house for the abused women and rape victims, wala rin para sa orphanage," he said.
(I donated land because I observed that in Legazpi we don't have a facility for the elderly such as a Home for the Aged, we don't have a reception house for the abused women and rape victims, there is also nothing for the orphanage.)
“Kausap na natin ang DSWD, sila ang bahala sa plano ng facility. We have provided the property kung saan itatayo ang pasilidad and we are just waiting for the groundbreaking ceremony para masimulan na ang construction nito,” the lawmaker added.
(We are already talking to the DSWD, they will take care of the plans for the facility. We have provided the property where the facility will be built and we are just waiting for the groundbreaking ceremony to start the construction.) --Dexter Barro II
