As a last minute reminder, House Deputy Minority Leader Bernadette Herrera told Filipinos not to get swayed by "empty promises and grand speeches" when they go out to vote for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials on Monday, Oct. 30.
“We need leaders who have a vision and the capability to turn that vision into reality. This is the time for us to break away from traditional politics and prioritize competence and dedication,” Herrera said in a statement, Oct. 29.
“Don’t be swayed by empty promises and grand speeches. Look at what these candidates have done for their communities in the past,” added the Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Party-list representative.
Herrera’s appeal for holding barangay poll bets to a higher standard stemmed from her conviction that electing officials with a proven history of concrete accomplishments can bring about genuine change in the lives of citizens.
“Have they initiated projects that have improved the quality of life for their constituents? Have they shown a commitment to public service? These are the questions we must ask," she noted.
Barangay officials are the frontliners of public service. They are the ones who directly address the needs of our communities. Therefore, it is imperative that we choose leaders who are not just talkers but true performers and doers,” Herrera further said.
The seasoned party-list lawmaker firmly believes that empowering barangay officials with vision and a proven track record can lead to more responsive and effective local governance.
“Let’s choose barangay officials who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work for the betterment of our communities. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous nation,” she concluded.
