Barzaga due for open-heart surgery, but work still on his mind

Cavite 4th district Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. needs to undergo a major operation in the United States (US) in the coming days.

Barzaga, 73, made this announcement in a Facebook post before dawn Monday, Oct. 30.

"Today, Oct. 30, 2023, I am leaving for the United States of America to undergo an open-heart surgery. I am asking for your support through prayers for a successful operation and speedy recovery," wrote the veteran lawyer-congressman.

One can tell from Barzaga's post that this early, he is already looking forward to coming back to work in the House of Representatives once he's feeling better.

"Once I have recovered and regained my strength and vigor, I will carry on wirh my mission in life--which is to be of service to my fellow DasmariÃ±eros," said the former DamariÃ±as mayor.

"For the past 25 years, I and Mayor Jenny have been working for an altruistic purpose--to uplift the quality of lives of our constituents," he added.

Barzaga chairs the House Committee on Natural Resources in the current 19th Congress. He stepped down as president of the National Unity Party (NUP) last year following the national elections.

The NUP membership is among the biggest in the House.
