Makabayan solon Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas has slammed the Marcos administration’s "neutral" stance in the raging, bloody war between Israeli government forces and Hamas rebel fighters.
This, after the Philippines government decided to abstain from the United Nations (UN) resolution calling for an "immediate, durable, and sustainable humanitarian truce" between Israel and Hamas.
"The decision to abstain from the UN resolution further exposes the subservience of the Philippine government to the interests of the United States (US)," Brosas said.
Hamas, which operates in the Palestinian-occupied territory of Gaza Strip near the Israel-Egypt border, launched a surprise rocket against Israel last Oct. 7. Israel, which gets aid from the US, has been launching air strikes in Gaza.
Brosas said that four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have already died from the conflict, and yet President Marcos "chose to be neutral and sit back and watch as thousands of people die.
"While we recognize the need for the protection of civilians caught in the crossfire of this conflict, it is crucial to prioritize the lives and well-being of the Palestinian people who have been disproportionately affected by the ongoing violence," she said.
"We call on the Marcos administration to reconsider its stand and side with the people's clamor for justice," she further said.
