MARAWI CITY – The military has urged cooperation for a peaceful barangay election on Monday, October 30, in Lanao del Sur.
"Ngayong Monday, kailangan ng gobyerno ang tulong nating lahat, so dapat mag-impart tayo ng solution for the successful, honest, and orderly conduct of the election. Sigurado po na magiging successful tayo kapag lahat tayò ay magtutulungan at may teamwork (The government needs your help for a successful, honest, and orderly conduct of the elections on Monday. The elections will be successful if we help each other and have teamwork),” Brig. Gen. Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., 103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade commander, said.
He said the brigade has eight battalions scattered all throughout Lanao del Sur to ensure that security forces are available when needed by election officers and teachers.
"Iyong mga infantry battalions actually naka-deploy na, nandoon na sila ngayon sa mga polling centers para additional deterrence doon sa mga may planong manggugulo (These infantry battalions have been deployed to polling centers as deterrent to those who want to sow chaos on Election Day),” Barroquillo said in the final Provincial Joint Security Control Center (PJSCC) coordination conference at the Social Hall of the New Capitol Complex here on October 26.
Barroquillo assured security for election officers and teachers serving on the electoral board. "Huwag po kayong matakot, kami po ang bahala sa inyo, isumbong niyo lang sa amin at kami ang bahala para hindi kayo madamay kung meron mang manggugulo (Have no fear, we will safeguard you),” he said.
Barroquillo said they have enough troops and firepower to address any disorder.
"I am very positive po na pagdating ng Monday, alas dose ng hatinggabi ng Monday ay wala pong failure of elections (I am very positive that on 12 midnight on Monday that there will be no failure of elections)," he added.
The Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office led by Police Col. Robert Daculan reported during the conference that 350 augmentation personnel are ready to serve on Election Day when needed.
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Regional Election Director Ray Sumalipao called on the candidates to follow the rules and set themselves as models. "Nagpapili sila kaya dapat modelo sila sa lahat (They offered themselves to be chosen so they should serve as role models),” he said.
He urged voters to visit the office of the election officer to determine their precincts and voting centers on Monday.
Lanao del Sur Vice Gov. Mohammad Khalid R. Adiong hopes that the election in the province would be peaceful and there will be no failure of elections.
