
Thirty-one newly promoted generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) took their oath of office before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacañang on Friday, Oct. 27.
AFP Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. led the officers which also included four major generals (two-star officers) and 26 brigadier generals / commodores (one-star officers).
Twenty-two of the newly-promoted officers came from the Philippine Army (PA) personnel, five from the Philippine Air Force (PAF), and four from the Philippine Navy (PN) and Philippine Marine Corps (PMC).
"The oath-taking signifies the officers’ commitment to the performance of their duties and responsibilities as public servants and leaders who will steer the AFP in the accomplishment of its mandate of protecting the people and securing the state," Col. Xerxes Trinidad, chief of AFP public affairs office, said on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Meanwhile, Marcos emphasized the need for the AFP officers to perform their duties "with strength of character and utmost integrity, loyalty, and professionalism" amid developments in the security landscape.
"You must not only anticipate but you must also be ready to adapt and respond to emerging national security and defense realities that exist in our country and in our region," the Commander-in-Chief noted.
Brawner was named by Marcos as the 60th AFP Chief on July 19. He is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Makatao Class of 1989.
