SSS cracks down on delinquent employers in Manila

State-run Social Security System (SSS) handed written notices to a trucking company in Tondo, Manila for not unpaid workers’ contributions.

In a statement, the pension fund said four of the business establishments were not able to pay P2.71 million worth of contributions with penalties for their 79 employees.

Meanwhile, two delinquent employers failed to report their business and seven employees to SSS.

During the recent Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE), the SSS Tondo Branch served the company, along with six other delinquent employers, a violation letter stating that they failed to comply with the Republic Act. No. 11199 or Social Security Act of 2018.

The act serves as security protection to members and their beneficiaries against unfortunate circumstances and other contingencies that could result in loss of income or financial burden.

Moreover, the notice urged the employers to settle their delinquencies within 15 days, otherwise, the employers would be charged with criminal cases, according to SSS Tondo Acting Branch Head Eudora G. Racuyal.

The RACE was handled by Lazaro D. Canlas, head of SSS Binondo, and account officer John A. Wong of SSS Tondo.

The campaign was established to amplify the employers’ obligations to the SSS.

Through this, SSS would be able to alert businesses and companies to pay the mandatory premium contributions of member-employees on time.

Employers who fail to register their employees or those who have not dedicated and remitted the necessary contributions will be given a P5,000 to P20,000 fine and will be imprisoned for the violations. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
