NOW Corp, Mangata Networks ink MOU for satellite connectivity

Telecommunication company NOW Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with US-based technology firm Mangata Networks Inc. for stronger satellite-enabled connectivity.

The MOU was signed at the Grand Hyatt in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City. Among the signatories were Mangata Network’s Vice President for Global Sales Operations Danielle Quint, Chief Commercial Officer Jerome Hewlett, NOW Corp’s President & CEO Henry Abes and Managing Director Kristian Pura.

Through the service agreement, NOW Corp. aims to develop its services and network resiliency by utilizing Mangata Network’s 32-satellite constellation, consisting of eight highly elliptical orbits (HEOs) and 24 medium Earth orbits (MEOs), with a latency less than 100ms round-trip and speeds of over 10Gbps to a single site.

The US tech firm’s spectrum and orbits are approved by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), which is an international governing body that regulates the use of radio frequency spectrum.

Its figures, along with a network of data centers, allows Mangata to offer seamless and real-time connectivity as well as cloud computing services even in remote areas. The combination of HEOs and MEOs can optimize Mangata’s capacity and the overall system performance with global coverage.

The commercial Service-Level Agreement (SLA) signed by both parties “guarantees excellent service quality and 99.5 percent network availability at a cost-effective price compared to industry competitors.”

NOW Corp. President Abes said their alliance with Mangata “aligns with our objective to establish a trusted network in the country. Currently, we focus on the enterprise market and Mangata’s solution matches the sophisticated demands of the market when it comes to having reliable satellite connectivity.”

NOW Corp. customers will have access to Mangata Networks' MangataEdge™, “which extends the reach of 5G and IoT connectivity into remote areas, bringing cloud applications closer to users, and integrates with NOW Corp's secure network infrastructure.”

"We are delighted to be partnering with NOW Corp. Our solutions will allow reliable enterprise-quality services to be provided within the Philippines on a secure network", said Hewlett.

"Enterprises want guaranteed information rates, with flexible data services, and no data caps. Combining satellite capacity with cloud-based services enables secure private networks and gives more control to the Philippines government and enterprise businesses to control the costs and security of their digital infrastructure,” he added.
