Field trip bus catches fire in Tagaytay

CAVITE – A tourist bus carrying students on an educational tour caught fire in Tagaytay City on Thursday, Oct. 26.

A report from the Cavite Police Provincial Office says the driver of the bus encountered an engine failure while traversing a steep and curved road en route to People's Park in the Sky.

Smoke was seen coming out from the vehicle’s rear before the fire broke out.

Tagaytay City Fire Station told the Manila Bulletin that the vehicular fire was reported at 10:18 a.m. and was put out by 10:33 a.m. No casualties were reported.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino said he personally went on-site to assess the situation and check on the students and personnel of Sacred Heart Academy from Santa Maria, Bulacan.

“Likewise supervised the traffic flow in the area and ensured that the students were brought to safety and gave them free lunch at Tagaytay Picnic Grove. Together with Vice Mayor Agnes Tolentino, DMD who also spent time and spoke with the students, allowing them to enjoy the breeze and scenery of Tagaytay,” the mayor wrote.
