The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will reactivate its “Lakbay Alalay” roadside assistance program to address the surge of motorists along key routes as most national roads will be busy for this year’s observance of All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day.
Lakbay Alalay will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2., to maintain smooth traffic flow on national highways as large volumes of vehicles are expected during the “Undas” long weekend.
The DPWH said it will deploy composite teams to help manage traffic while regional and district engineering offices nationwide were ordered to field staff and personnel with maintenance tools on standby.
“For three days, our 'Lakbay Alalay' Motorist Assistance Centers will be operational to provide prompt and reliable assistance to motorists and travelers going to visit their departed loved ones this long weekend,” DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said.
The DPWH said the maintenance crew have installed warning signs and barricades at strategic locations to prevent road congestion. (Trixee Rosel)
