As a token of gratitude for their Asian Games performances, President Marcos doubled the cash incentives of the Filipino winners which totaled to a whopping P41.9 million in a night of celebration at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Record-setting pole vault star EJ Obiena, jit-jitsu champions Meggie Ochoa and Annie Ramirez, and the golden Gilas Pilipinas basketball team were rewarded with extra bonuses, while the two silver and 12 bronze medalists were given twice the amount they were supposed to get under the Republic Act No. 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.
Gold medalists of an individual sport are entitled to P2 million, while team champions stand to receive P500,000 each. Silver medalists, meanwhile, will get P1 million, while bronze winners take home P400,000.
But the President was gracious enough to pay off the sacrifices of the athletes by doubling the incentives.
“Your victory has boosted our people’s morale, nagdala kayo ng ligaya sa [buong] Pilipinas,” Marcos said.
“Marami tayong hinaharap na talagang nakakalungkot, ngunit dahil sa ginawa ninyo, nakangiti ang buong Pilipinas pagbalik nya mula sa [China],” he added.
For topping their respective events in the continental meet, Obiena, Ochoa and Ramirez got richer by P4 million, while Gilas Pilipinas members received P1 million each.
This is on top of the P1 million which the Philippine Olympic Committee had pledged for gold medal winners.
