The Malabon city government on Thursday, Oct. 26, denied that it already shared on social media the official list of names of the deceased buried at the Tugatog Public Cemetery, which is currently under redevelopment, in line with the commemoration of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, Nov. 1 and 2.

This after a Facebook page called “Malabon Tugatog Cemetery-IBC” released a “partial” list of names of the deceased that were exhumed from their graves during the burial site’s renovation. The names were arranged in alphabetical order.

In a statement on Thursday, the local government said that only the City Health Department has the legitimate list of the buried individuals at Tugatog Cemetery.

It added that it issued a cease and desist order to the Facebook page to stop sharing names on social media to avoid confusion among residents and families whose loved ones were buried in the cemetery.

“Maliban sa ito ay maituturing na paglabag sa Data Privacy Act, ito ay magdudulot din ng kalituhan at hindi nararapat na pag-aalala sa mga pamilyang hindi makita ang pangalan ng kanilang yumaong mahal sa buhay dahil sa buong akala na ang nilabas na listahan ng Malabon Tugatog Cemetery-IBC ay isang opisyal na listahan (Apart from being considered a violation of the Data Privacy Act, it will also cause confusion and undue concern to families who cannot see the name of their deceased loved ones because they thought that the list shared by Malabon Tugatog Cemetery-IBC is official,” it said.

In 2021, the city government started the redevelopment of the cemetery to add more burial slots and make the site cleaner and more secure. The project required the exhumation of the deceased from their graves.

On Tuesday, Oct. 24, the city government said the remains of their loved ones were brought to a safe place while the renovation of the cemetery is on going. It said that they still need to complete 57 percent of the renovation before opening the burial site again to the public.

It also announced that a “Wall of Remembrance” will be opened on Oct. 29, where visitors of Tugatog Cemetery can light candles and offer prayers for their departed relatives. The official list of the names of he deceased at the cemetery will be featured on the wall.

“Nais ipabatid rin ng  Lokal na Pamahalaan na ang Tugatog Cemetery ay pag-aari ng Lokal na Pamahalaan at walang itinalagang facebook page (kasama itong Malabon Tugatog Cemetery - IBC)  bilang lehitimong tagapaglathala at tagapamahala ng Tugatog Cemetery (The Local Government would also like to inform that the Tugatog Cemetery is owned by the Local Government and there is no designated Facebook page (including the Malabon Tugatog Cemetery - IBC) as the legitimate publisher and manager of the Tugatog Cemetery),” the city government said.

It also earlier said that it will soon share the legitimate list of the names of the deceased on its Facebook page.

It also assured the public the public that all the names of those buried in Tugatog Cemetery before the redevelopment were included in the official list.
