Alex Eala and Czech partner Barbora Palicova overcame a first-set stumble to prevail in the opening round of the Scottish Open Championships in Great Britain on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Showing cohesion inside the court, the unseeded Eala and Palicova outlasted Turkey’s Berfu Cengiz and hometown bet Ali Collins, 4-6, 6-2, 10-2, to advance to the quarterfinals of the $60,000 Glasgow event.
The Filipina-Czech tandem came through with difficult shots to dictate the tempo in the second set before Cengiz and Collins lost their steam in the deciding third frame.
Eala and Palicova are expected to have a tougher time in the next round as they face second seed Freya Christie of Great Britain and Olivia Gadecki of Australia, who hardly broke a sweat in dumping British pair Katy Dunne and Ella McDonald, 6-2, 6-2.
Eala has yet to win her first pro doubles title although she also already collected four singles titles including two this year in the W25 Roehampton and W25 Yecla events.
