The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is currently seeking employment opportunities for two siblings of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was killed in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
“Kasalukayang tinutulungan ngayon yung dalawang kapatid nong nasawi na taga-Binmaley, Pangasinan,” DMW Officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac during a hearing of the Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs on Thursday morning, Oct. 26.
(We are currently helping the two siblings of the casualty from Binmaley, Pangasinan.)
Cacdac said they are helping the two siblings get job opportunities per request of the slain OFW’s family.
The DMW, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), are overseeing the assistance being given to the families of the four OFWs slain in the ongoing war.
“Ayon sa utos ng Pangulo, gawin ang lahat na makakaya natin para tulungan ang mga nanumbalik at yung pamilyang naiwan ng apat na nasawi,” Cacdac said.
(According to the President's order, we need to do everything we can to help those who were repatriated and the families left behind by the four casualties.)
Cacdac noted that 746 families have asked for help regarding the status of their OFW relatives in the areas of conflict.
Out of 746, only two are unaccounted for.
Cacdad said they are actively asking help from the Israel Defense Forces to locate all OFWs affected by the Israel-Hamas war. --Dexter Barro II
