A police officer was arrested in Cabuyao, Laguna after he shot dead the brother of his live-in partner in Don Carlos Village, Barangay 190, Zone 20, Pasay City on Thursday, Oct. 26.
Police identified the suspect as Staff Sgt. Ruel Lacuesta, assigned to the Regional Personnel Holding Administration Section.
According to the Southern Police District (SPD), Lacuesta and his live-in partner had a heated argument at around 1:00 a.m. in Don Carlos Village.
The suspect reportedly pulled out his firearm and tried to shoot his live-in partner but the bullet instead hit the woman's brother, "Ramon", in the chest.
"Ramon" was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The police said the suspect immediately fled after the incident.
Members of the Pasay Police Substation-5 was about to conduct a follow-up operation against Lacuesta when they received an information that the suspect would like to surrender and take responsibility of the incident.
Lacuesta was arrested in Barangay Mamatid in Cabuyao, Laguna
The police said Lacuesta voluntary submitted himself to the responding policemen and surrendered his service firearm.
He was brought to the Pasay City Police Station and was detained at the custodial facility. His service firearm was brought to the SPD Forensic Unit for ballistic examination.
Charges of murder and attempted murder, violation Republic Act 9262 (Violence Against Women and Children), and R.A. 10591 in relation to R.A. 76166 (Omnibus Election Code) will be filed against the suspect.
