59 police officers secure Siargao Surfing Cup


GENERAL LUNA, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte – The Police Regional Office-13 has deployed 59 police officers to secure the ongoing 27th Siargao International Surfing Cup here.

“Rest assured that PNP Caraga will make its best efforts to make this international event peaceful and free from any forms of violence,” PRO-13 chief Police Brig. Gen. John Kirby Kraft said.

“We hope to have zero crime-related incident in the entire duration of the competition,” Kraft added.

Department of Tourism (DOT)-13 Director Ivonnie  B. Dumadag said local and foreign tourists, Very Important Persons, stakeholders, and the public are anticipated to witness the five-day competition until November 1.

“Until this time, big number of tourists and visitors are still coming to witness this big seasporting event while others are also plan to have a long vacation break here,” Dumadag said. 

Municipal officials led by Mayor Sol F. Matugas have prepared programs to entertain surfers and visitors during the event that started on Wednesday, October 25.

Deployed policemen are conducting patrols, checkpoints, and other law enforcement operations, complementing troops of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and force multipliers.
