Darryl Yap on the Marcoses: 'They’re not on speaking terms'

Controversial film director-writer Darryl Yap is back.

And he is doing so doing what he does best: Causing a commotion.

In a recent interview, Darryl revealed how taxing it was for him to do Marcos-centric films "Maid In Malacañang" and "Martyr Or Murderer," sharing how hard it was to deal with the family.

He told us, "Sobrang hirap silang kausap. Pabagu-bago ng isip. Tapos they are not as united as a family so it’s very hard for me..."

Darryl actually dropped "Martyr Or Murderer" at one point, with him and co-producer Imee Marcos not being able to see eye to eye on so many things.

"Sobrang nag-away talaga kami, as in we need to pack up the shooting for like two days para lang maayos kaming dalawa," he related.

“Iniwan ko na siya ('Martyr Or Murderer'). They were talking na to Suzette Doctolero to finish the writing. They already had a contact with Direk Brillante Mendoza. Sabi ko kay Senator Imee, 'Gusto ko okay tayo kahit hindi tayo okay professionally. I don’t want to lose the friendship.' Pero nakausap ni Boss Vic si Senator Imee and, I guess, nahilot."

It is supposed to be a trilogy, with Viva and Darryl himself relating how they are aiming to follow it up with "Mabuhay Aloha Mabuhay," but he is not so sure anymore.

“With the third installment, I’m gonna be very honest, but it’s really for (Imee Marcos' )re-election for 2025. It’s an avenue to campaign. I’ve written it na, pero sabi ko nga, kung feeling ko babae ako, nakunan na ako sa sobrang stress. Nakakabaog siya, sa totoo lang, na gawin yan. You have so many bosses. So, I don't know. Hindi lang Viva ang nagde-decide niyan. Manang Imee is a co-producer and it's a family story so I have to respect that."

As to those who have branded him a "loyalista" or a rabid Marcos ally, he said, “I don’t consider myself that. I’m a filmmaker.  I am paid to do a job. Bayad ako para gumawa ng mga ganitong proyekto. Ang pinakaresponsibilidad ko lang ay pumili ng proyekto at kapag umoo ako, I give my hundred percent to it."

He added, "I never posted anything like 'vote for Bongbong' or something like that, but I am with Senator Imee."

He made clear what he means relating, “Kapag kaming dalawa ni Senator Imee, alam niyang hindi ako kagaya nung ibang mga tao niya or mga kaibigan niyang hinahalikan yung puwet niya. Oo nang oo sa kanya."

He then divulged, "They're not on speaking terms, sila-sila sa pamilya nila."
