Bong Go condemns but hopes for peaceful reso to China collision at WPS

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said he condemns China’s latest provocations in the West Philippine Sea but is hopeful there would be a peaceful resolution to the issue. 

 

Go said that as vice chair of the Senate Committee on National Defense, he is concerned over the latest incident when China Coast Guard vessels hit Filipino ships engaged in a routine resupply mission in the WPS. 

 

“Walang katapusan po ito nung una pagtutok nung military grade laser, water cannon and ngayon naman binabangga (tayo) (There’s no end to the harassment, first the military grade laser, then the water cannon and then now this collision),” Go said in an interview during his visit to Kapalong, Davao del Norte. 

 

“Kung totoong may harassment o binabangga, kino kondena natin ito (If it’s true that there was harassment or there was a collision, we strongly condemn this),” he further said. 

 

“At ako po ay nananawagan sana ay ma resolba ito sa mapayapang paraan at hindi umabot sa karahasan. Dahil maliit lang tayo na bansa (And I call for a peaceful resolution to this problem so this doesn’t escalate to violence. Because we are just a small nation),” he added. 

 

“Kahit maliit lang tayo, kilala ko ang mga Pilipino na pinaglalaban kung ano ang atin (But even if we are just a small country, I know that us Filipinos will fight for what is ours),” Go reiterated. 

 

Go also said that he is willing to fight for the country’s rights and hoped for a solution to the problem at hand. 

 

“Wala po silang karapatan na i-harass ang ating mga vessel. Karamihan diyan nasa resupply mission lang sa Ayungin Shoal. Atin yun eh (They have no right to harass our vessels. Most of them there are just in a resupply mission at the Ayungin Shoal. That is ours eh). What is ours is ours),” he reiterated.

 

“Kung ano yung nire-resupply natin, hindi naman tayo lumalabag sa batas. Pinaglalaban lamang po kung ano yung atin (Whatever we are resupplying, we are not violating any law. We are just fighting for what is ours),” the lawmaker said.
