Alex Eala bowed to unseeded Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, to stumble early in the Scottish Open Championships on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Great Britain.

Seeded eighth in the $60,000 Glasgow tournament, Eala unleashed a variety of shots to dominate her rival in the opening set only to lose steam in the next two frames.
The victory could have arranged the 18-year-old Filipina teen sensation a second-round date with another unseeded foe in Mona Barthel of Germany, who outlasted Czech Republic’s Anna Siskova, 6-0, 6-7 (6), 6-3.
While Eala was unsuccessful in the singles, the 2023 Asian Games bronze medalist hoped she and her Czech partner Barbora Palicova would prevail in the 16-pair doubles event.
The Filipina-Czech tandem is scheduled to meet Turkey’s Berfu Cengiz and hometown bet Ali Collins in the opening round.
A triumph for Eala and Palicova would set them up a quarterfinals meeting with second seed Freya Christie and Australia’s Olivia Gadecki, who clobbered British duo Katy Dunne and Ella McDonald, 6-2, 6-2.
Eala has yet to win her first pro doubles title although she also already collected four singles titles including two this year in the W25 Roehampton and W25 Yecla events.
