Aboitiz Power Corp. and South Cotabato Electric Cooperative Inc. (SOCOTECO-I) have collaborated to donate electric supplies to Barangay Benitez in South Cotabato.
Based on the 2020 census, the donation would power 1.8 million Filipino households, in line the government’s goal to successfully install full electrification by the year 2028.
The target beneficiaries for this initiative is said to be for the less-fortunate families, as well as those living in remote areas.
“Building on last year’s ‘Light-A-Home’ electrification project, the donation included light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs, thermoplastic water-resistant wires, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes, breakers, and meter boxes,” Aboitiz Power said.
The Light-A-Home project was made to bring electricity to places in the country that are hard to reach. The recipients are also meant for homes who have no sufficient source to no income at all and cannot provide for basic energy necessities.
Since then, the campaign has tapped various sources of funding from energy partners besides government agencies.
The partnership between Aboitiz Power and SOCOTECO-I supported the Sitio Electrification Program.
The program, which was expedited last February by the National Electrification Administration (NEA), construct and distribute lines and house wiring facilities to energize areas in the country without power.
The target places also include zones that are considered as a territorial enclave that forms part of a barangay and those that are out of the barangay bounds.
A memorandum of agreement has been signed between the two power companies and Barangay Benitez.
Present at the signing were General Manager Raffee Edsel Epistola and Board President Hilarion Octaviano of SOCOTECO-I, Benitez Barangay Chief Anthony Peremne, and Aboitiz Power representative Daryll Gacus. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
