San Juan LGU to inspect cemeteries for Undas 2023

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said on Tuesday, Oct. 24, the city government will inspect its cemeteries and columbaries on Wednesday, Oct. 25, as part of its preparations for Undas 2023.

Zamora will lead the inspection of the San Juan City Cemetery at 9 a.m. He will also visit the columbaries of St. John The Baptist and Santuario del Sto. Cristo to ensure the managements' readiness for the surge of people about to visit their deceased loved ones by November.

“Our cemeteries will be operating at 100% capacity so we are doing the inspection three days before families gather here to finalize everything – to keep peace and order, and ensure the safety of everyone,” Zamora said.

He added that members of the San Juan PNP, BFP, Public Order and Safety Office and Task Force Disiplina will be deployed to cemeteries and columbaries to keep peace and order.

Quick Response Teams of the San Juan CDRRMO and CSWD booths will also be in the area should any individual needs urgent medical care or help when children get lost.

The San Juan City Cemetery along with all personnel will be in full operation from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.

The mayor reminded visitors to refrain from bringing in the cemetery sharp objects and firearms, illegal drugs, alcoholic beverages, bicycles and motorcycles.

Also prohibited inside the cemetery are playing of loud music, littering, gambling; and selling of items like flowers, food and drinks, and candles without special mayor’s permit; and the tapping of electricity.

“I am asking everyone to follow all the rules and regulations so we can have a peaceful, orderly and meaningful observance of Undas," he urged.

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the city government issued several public safety protocols to the public to prevent it from being a super spreader event such as the implementation of online booking for appointments to the cemetery and the prohibition of any Halloween activity.

It then revamped its visitation protocols in 2022 as the pandemic eased.
