Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian awarded certificates of commendation to four public servants on Monday, Oct. 23, for their exceptional service to the city.

The three honored Valenzuela City Hall public servants belong to the traffic management division and demonstrated outstanding performance on July 21.
One of them, Marlon Magalang, a sidewalk clearing operations personnel, was called upon by a bakeshop in Barangay Malanday to help apprehend two shoplifters inside their store.

After confirming their identities, Magalang promptly pursued the two shoplifters without any hesitation.
Magalang was assisted by two traffic enforcers, Marcelino Macaya and Jomar Rodolfo, and they successfully apprehended the two shoplifters who were subsequently brought to the Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS) for appropriate action.

The city mayor also acknowledged Patrolman August David Jr., a Valenzuela City police trainee, who fearlessly rescued a 14-year-old girl from drowning in the Pasig River in Taytay, Rizal, on Oct. 6.

The rescued girl was rushed to Taytay Emergency Hospital for medical care.
In recognition of their commendable actions, Gatchalian proudly awarded certificates to Magalang, Macaya, Rodolfo, and David.
Along with the certificates, they also received tokens from the city mayor.
“This invaluable achievement will not only boost the spirit of integrity of all public servants in the city but reflects a more secure and safer environment for every Pamilyang Valenzuelano,” Valenzuela Public Information Office (PIO) stated.
