Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna expressed optimism that the new acting director of the Manila Police District (MPD) will be able to intensify the maintenance of peace and order in the city.
MPD Chief Col. Arnold Thomas Ibay was assigned to host the regular flag-raising on Monday, Oct. 23, where the lady mayor formally welcomed and introduced him to the city hall employees.
The mayor cited the forthcoming big events that will be taking place in the city, namely the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023 and the observance of Undas.
"Kami po ay nag-usap na. I already gave directives at sabi niya, nung tinanggap nya ang posisyon ay 'wholeheartedly po niya itong gagawin, so maraming salamat po (We have talked already. I already gave directives and he said, when he accepted the position he would do it wholeheartedly, so thank you very much),” the local chief executive noted.
Lacuna-Pangan said Ibay is an “old hand” in the Manila police. He has held various positions in the MPD and is already familiar with implementing security measures for the capital city.
She said Ibay left the district a year ago and now returns to hold the top police post in Manila.
"Sa kanyang pamumuno, tayo ay naniniwala na lalo niyang paiigtingin ang kapayapaan at kaayusan sa ating minamahal na lungsod (With his leadership, we believe that he will further strengthen peace and order in our beloved city), she said.
She also called on the city government employees to give their best in public service, saying the quality of the work they do is a reflection of their love not only for their jobs but also for their fellowmen and the city in general.
