In a recent report by Google Trends, search interest for shearling jackets spiked in the past month as the world welcomed the fall season. Since its creation, the piece has created a permanent space in many people’s wardrobes for fall dressing. And as time goes by, brands and designers continue to reimagine the piece, taking it to a classic status. As the Philippines is now experiencing the Amihan season, Filipino fashionistas are also getting creative in wearing shearling pieces. The latest to demonstrate a take on shearling style is actress Marian Rivera.

In her recent post, the star of the upcoming film “Rewind” was seen carrying a shearling handbag. The piece is Fend’s latest iteration of its iconic Peekaboo ISeeU bag. Designed by the brand’s artistic director of accessories and menswear, Silvia Venturini Fendi, the bag was first launched in 2008. Since then, it has become one of the go-to bags of women all over the world.

The new look of the Peekaboo ISeeU bag features an interlace design with shearling strips meticulously hand-waved into the drilled leather panels, forming a beautiful effect between a pattern. The design is finished off with gold hardware for an added dose of luxury.

“The creation process of a Peekaboo interlace is long and requires meticulous precision. Artisans search for the perfect spot on the shearling to cut out the quadrant, avoiding every little flaw. Subsequently, shearling is drilled with the holes that will then be used to connect the strips that tie the various parts of the bag together, as well as the ones that will be used to decorate the panels,” the brand said in a statement. “A perfectly identical paper pattern is overlapped over the pelt as a guide to make the holes, one by one, with the use of a leather hole punch cutter. Each bag is then interlaced by hand, starting from the quadrants. The bag is left unlined, showcasing the exquisite interlaced workmanship also on the inside and revealing the double-sided beauty inherent to the Peekaboo bag.”

The piece comes in a timeless color palette of neutrals, spiced up by delicate touches of dusty tones for the bicolor versions, and is now present in Fendi boutiques worldwide and on fendi.com.
