The Manila-Department of Public Services (DPS) encouraged the public on Tuesday, Oct. 24, to trade in their electronic wastes for a concert organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB).

The concert called "Together WEEE Can!" aims to bring together environmentally-conscious individuals, young activists, community leaders, and organizations for a collective celebration of eco-friendly practices and raise awareness of e-waste's health and environmental impacts.

It will be held at the Marikina Sports Center on Nov. 5, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization - Philippine Office (UNIDO) and EcoWaste Coalition.

The local government said it wanted the Manilans to experience the concert while contributing to an eco-friendly cause.

The event features Kean Cipriano, Chrstn, 7th, Shortone, and Kenaniah.

Interested public can drop off their e-waste at Ortega Covered Court, Barangay 737 Zone 80, District V, Malate, Manila, until Oct. 27, 2023.

One small e-waste is equivalent to one concert ticket, while one whole medium e-waste like an oven toaster, small television, and microwave is equivalent to two concert tickets; and three tickets for one large e-waste like a refrigerator and washing machine.

To qualify for the tickets, the e-waste traded in must be a whole item and not spare or loose parts.

DENR-EMB said the e-waste can also be brought directly to the concert venue on Nov. 5.

It added that it has set up three materials recovery facilities (MRF) located in Caloocan, Malabon, and Baguio Cities, which are dedicated to the collected electronic waste.

Aside from live music from artists, there will be interactive workshops, and eco-friendly exhibits, aiming to educate and inspire attendees to incorporate responsible e-waste disposal into their daily lives.
