Cadiz City pays tribute to OFW killed in Hamas attack in Israel
BACOLOD CITY – The Cadiz City government in Negros Occidental on Monday, October 24, paid tribute to overseas Filipino worker Loreta Alacre who was killed in an attack by the militant group Hamas in Israel early this month.

The city government is set to name a newly built evacuation center in Barangay Cadiz Viejo to Loreta V. Alacre Evacuation Center in her honor. Alacre has been an OFW in Taiwan and Israel from 2002 to 2023.
The evacuation center is situated within the Cadiz Viejo National High School where Alacre finished her secondary education.
Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. declared Alacre as a hero and paid tribute to her heroism through a motorcade and heroine’s welcome in Cadiz on Monday, a day after her remains arrived at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Administrator Arnell Ignacio of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) arrived on Monday afternoon and visited Alacre’s family.
Ignacio was joined by OWWA-Western Visayas officer-in-charge regional director Rizza Joy Moldez who led OWWA personnel in assisting Alacre’s family in her wake at their residence in Barangay Cadiez Viejo.
Alacre, 49, was a caregiver in Tel Aviv, Israel for 15 years. She was attending a music festival near the boundary of the Gaza Strip on October 7 when Hamas militants launched an attack that killed her.
She was among the four Filipinos fatalities in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
