Renewable power pioneer and publicly listed Alternergy Holdings Corp. said it will develop a wind farm on the island of Alabat, Quezon.
In a statement, Alternergy said the Provincial Development Council (PDC) of Quezon Province approved the construction of Alabat Wind Power, a renewable project.
The PDC endorsement is one of the remaining clearances in order for the project to push through.
The council said the development of wind power in Alabat would be economically beneficial to the province and its constituents.
“[This project is] consistent with the province’s vision and mission of a progressive Quezon Province through optimized utilization of resources and provision of infrastructure and support services,” Alternergy said.
Gerry Magbanua, Alternergy President, thanked the PDC for their support which will help start the Alabat Wind Power construction.
“We welcome the favorable support from Quezon Province. We will be long-term partners for the development of not just the Alabat Island but the entire province,” Magbanua said.
“Our Alabat Wind Power Project is committed to delivering sustainable energy and growth to our community,” he added.
Alternergy continues to boost the development of its wind power initiatives.
This includes the projects in Alabat, Quezon, and Tanay, Rizal which are said to have a maximum capacity of 164 megawatts (MW).
Recently, the energy firm secured a lease contract with Tanay municipality for the revenue-sharing agreement in order to develop the onshore wind project in Rizal.
The two projects have been recently awarded by the Department of Energy (DOE) under the Green Energy Auction 2 (GEA 2) Program.
Furthermore, Alternergy has robust expansion plans in the next three years and expects to develop up to 366 MW of additional renewable energy such as wind, solar, and run-of-river hydro projects. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
