DepEd, World Bank explore MATATAG collaborations to enhance education quality
The Department of Education (DepEd) and The World Bank Group discussed possible partnerships to help improve the quality of education in the country.

On her official Facebook page, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte shared that The World Bank Group Country Director for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand Dr. Ndiamé Diop visited the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City on Monday, Oct. 23, for a courtesy call.
“Masaya ako na pareho naming kinikilala ang malaking papel na ginagampanan ng edukasyon para sa pagbabago ng buhay at kinabukasan ng bansa (I am happy that we both recognize the significant role that education plays in changing the lives and the future of the country),” Duterte said.
During the courtesy call, Duterte shared that officials of DepEd and The World Bank Group discussed possible collaborations that would help address the challenges in the country’s education sector.
Among the possible areas for collaboration include the implementation of the MATATAG Agenda.
Launched early this year, the MATATAG Agenda is DepEd’s newest battlecry to resolve challenges in the basic education sector.

The MATATAG Agenda focuses on making curriculum relevant to produce competent and job-ready, active, and responsible citizens; taking steps to accelerate delivery of basic education facilities and services; taking good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive learning environment; and give support to teachers to teach better.
In particular, DepEd and The World Bank Group discussed possible measures to expand training for Filipino teachers through the “Teacher Effectiveness and Competencies Enhancement Project” in various regions as well as constructing additional sturdy schools under the “Infrastructure for Safer and Resilient Schools” project.
Duterte said that the DepEd Digital Education 2028 or “DepEd DigiEd” program of the department was also among those that were discussed with the key officials of The World Bank Group.
Moreover, Duterte also expressed gratitude to The World Bank Group for the grant Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“Ako ay positibo na ang kolaborasyon at pagtutulungan ay magdadala ng makabuluhang pagbabago sa edukasyon sa bansa (I am positive that collaboration and cooperation will bring about significant changes in education in the country),” Duterte said.
