Cop killed in motorcycle-truck collision

BACOLOD CITY – A policeman was killed in a collision with a truck on the national highway in Purok Ipil-ipil, Barangay San Juan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental on Monday, October 23.

Police identified the victim as Police Patrolman Reden Agus, 31, of Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental and assigned to the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO).

Police Major Romulo Gepilango, Pontevedra police chief, said Agus was allegedly speeding on his way home from duty at around 2:15 a.m. when he crashed into a truck traveling on the opposite lane.

Gepilango said the victim might have avoided a dog and probably lost control over his motorcycle that resulted in the head-on collision.

He said the victim sustained head injuries despite wearing a helmet. He was declared dead in a hospital, Gepilango said.

Agus was among the augmentation personnel deployed for the MassKara Festival here, Gepilango said.

He said the truck driver and his two companions were placed under police custody pending a meeting with the victim’s family.
