500 cyclists join bike ride along QC's historical sites
Around 500 cyclist in Quezon City pedaled along different historical sites in the city in a bike ride conducted by the local government on Sunday, Oct. 22.
The “Katipunan Freedom Trail (KFT): Padyak Pabalik sa Kasaysayan” bike ride event was organized by the Quezon City Tourism Department (QCTD), and Department of Public Order and Safety Green Transport Office (DPOS-GTO) as part of the city’s 84th Foundation Anniversary celebration. Quezon City was founded on Oct. 12, 1939.
According to the local government, the event aims to promote tourism in the city by featuring different historical sites related to the Kataastaasang, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK), a revolutionary group founded in 1892 by Andres Bonifacio, a national hero, to fight for freedom during the Spanish colonization in the country.

The cyclists started from the Andres Bonifacio Shrine in Balintawak, traveling routes that passes Barangay Apolonio Samson, the Cry of Pugad Lawin, Melchora "Tandang Sora" Aquino National Shrine, and the Holy Parish Cross Church in Barangay Krus na Ligas, before reaching the end of the trail at the Quezon City Hall.
The QCTD also conducted a lecture for the cyclists about the historical landmarks they passed through.
The participants received bike repair kits, helmet, at meals during the event.
To ensure the safety of the cyclists, the city government deployed medical personnel who followed the routes taken by the participants.
Present during the activity were DPOS head retired Gen. Elmo DG. San Diego, DPOS-GTO Chief Cora Medes, Traffic and Transport Management Department Officer-in-Charge Dexter Cardenas, Assistant City Administrator (ACA) Alberto Kimpo, ACA lawyer Rene Grapilon, City Architect Department Arch. Lucille Chua, QCTD OIC Tetta Tirona, Market Development and Administration Department Action Officer for Administration Perry Dominguez, and Dr. Dave Vergara from the Office of the City Administrator.
“Suportado ng QC ang patuloy na paggamit ng bisikleta ng QCitizens. Bukod sa nakababawas ito sa polusyon para maproteksyunan ang kalikasan, malaki rin ang benepisyo nito sa kalusugan (QC supports the QCitizen’s usage of bicycles. Aside from reducing pollution to protect the environment, it also has great health benefits),” the local government said.
