CAVITE – Authorities arrested two men for allegedly slaughtering dogs in Dasmariñas City on Sunday, Oct. 22.

The Cavite Police Provincial Office identified the suspects as alias Jess and alias Junnel.

Dasmariñas City Police Station (CPS) received a report from a concerned citizen that the suspects regularly slaughter dogs to sell the meat.

“Nagbebenta po sila, nagluluto (They cook and sell it),” Dasmariñas CPS Chief Lt. Col. Socrates S. Jaca told the Manila Bulletin.

“Sa bahay na 'yun, meron silang mga asong kinakatay, tapos meron silang naka-stock din sa kulungan. Pero 'yung mga parokyano nila, eh hindi sila lantad, kumbaga tago-tago (In that house, they had slaughtered dogs and caged live dogs in stock. But their patrons, they aren't conspicuous, the business is hush-hush).”

Initial investigation showed that the suspects get stray dogs from the streets for slaughtering.

“'Yung mga stock nila doon, nagkakatay sila nang ilang piraso, tapos kapag nabawasan, manghuhuli na naman sila (They slaughter a few dogs, and when their stock is depleted, they would catch new ones again),” Jaca said.

Recovered from the suspects were containers of raw and cooked dog meat and five live dogs.

The police have already coordinated with the City Veterinary Office regarding the custody of the rescued live dogs and proper disposal of the confiscated meat.

Alias Jess and alias Junnel are now under the custody of Dasmariñas CPS and are facing charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.
