QC LGU, SOS prepare 1,200 meals for CICLs in Molave Youth Home

The Quezon City government and the Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Philippines conducted the “Food Rescue Kitchen” activity on Saturday, Oct. 21, where meals were given to the youth staying at the Molave Youth Home in the city.

The local government said that SOS prepared and served 1,200 meals for the youth in the shelter during the activity held as part of the city’s post-celebration of World Food Day on Monday, Oct. 16.

The Molave Youth Home in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City serves as a temporary shelter for children in conflict with the law (CICL) who were placed under the custody of authorities, it added.

According to the city government, the SOS is a non-profit food rescue organization that coordinates with local government units and institutions to reduce food waste by “rescuing“ excess foods that were about to be thrown by establishments and businesses in the city and sharing it with communities and families in need.

It added that Quezon City is the first local government unit that partnered with SOS to rescue excess food and share it with communities to address the hunger problem.

Parents who visited their children at the Molave Youth Home were also given hot meals during the activity.

The city government said that Allianz PNB Life Insurance, Incorporated also held a financial literacy seminar for the parents of the CICLs while the children also created colorful pots using recyclable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.

“Ang food rescue kitchen partnership ay bahagi din ng pag-promote ng lungsod sa circular economy at GrowQC food security (The food rescue kitchen partnership is also part of the city's promotion of the circular economy and GrowQC food security),” the city government said.

GrowQC is the city’s urban agriculture program that aims to achieve a food-secure and self-reliant city through the development of better food systems, and the establishment of possible agricultural and food zones.
