PRC-Malabon to collect 400 blood bags in bloodletting activity
The chairman of the Philippine Red Cross-Malabon City Chapter (PRC-Malabon) said that they are aiming to collect 400 bags of blood during PRC’s bloodletting activity at the City of Malabon University (CMU) in Barangay Longos on Sunday, Oct. 22.
“Always remember that giving blood saves lives,” PRC-Malabon City Chapter Chairman Ricky Sandoval said.
Around 600 CMU students and teachers registered to donate blood for the activity themed “Blood Heroes: Red Cross Youth Making A Difference,” which was conducted in celebration of PRC Youth Month.
Sandoval said that the collected blood bags will be brought to the PRC-Malabon Chapter’s blood bank.
The blood bags can be used by those who are in need of blood transfusion including persons who will undergo medical operations in hospitals, he added.

Sandoval said that they also go to different institutions, companies, barangay health centers, and malls to conduct bloodletting activities.
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval graced the event along with CMU President Glen De Leon.
De Leon said that they had already conducted three bloodletting activities at the CMU last year, in coordination with the PRC-Malabon and the city government.
“Yung mga students po natin, willing talaga sila na magdonate ng blood. Sabi nga din nila na since free yung education nila sa CMU, gusto nila makabalik sa community ng something. So ito yung tulong na magagawa nila para makapagsave ng lives, lalo na yung mga nangangailangan ng blood,” the CMU president said.
He said that aside from blood donation, the students also conduct feeding and literacy programs in the city’s barangays where they teach children how to read.
“We hope that we can have more people support the Red Cross and support our blood donation exercises, so that we can have more blood to dispense to those that are in need,” the PRC-Malabon Chapter chairman said.
Sandoval added that they are also conducting first aid and lifeguard trainings in different companies, as well as for the students and teachers of the city’s schools
He also urged the city residents to become PRC volunteers who will help in the organization’s different programs such as the bloodletting activities and disaster/emergency response operations.
Mayor Sandoval, the PRC-Malabon Chapter, and the Department of Education in Malabon signed a memorandum of agreement on Sept. 15, for the establishment of PRC Youth Councils in all schools in the city.
The councils will be established to promote volunteerism in disaster preparedness, basic life support, health and safety, and emergency response among the youth in the city.
The mayor encouraged the citizens to donate blood to help their fellow residents who are in need of blood transfusion.
She also assured that different health programs of the local government such as dengue and tuberculosis screening will continue to be conducted in the city.
