Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan reminded on Thursday, Oct. 19, all police station commanders to stay away from partisan activities related to the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
At the start of the 10-day campaign period, Maranan warned all commanders of the police stations and their men against engaging in partisan politics. He ordered them to focus on their mission to maintain peace and order during the campaign period and the election day.
Maranan also said that charges will immediately be filed against policemen who would be proven to have engaged in partisan politics.
"As law enforcement officers, we are entrusted with the duty to maintain law and order, and to protect the rights and freedom of every citizen," Maranan said.
"To achieve this, we must remain unwavering in our commitment to uphold the principles of justice and equity," he added.
The police chief stated that partisan behavior not only undermines the public's trust in law enforcement institutions but also contradicts the very essence of justice that the organization stands for.
"I want to emphasize that partisan behavior will not be tolerated within the QCPD. We should render the same service and protection to all regardless of party affiliations," Maranan said.
The police chief reminded his police officers of their obligation to serve the public with the highest level of commitment and professionalism.
"We can maintain the integrity of our organization and fulfill our responsibility to safeguard the democratic process. I trust that every member of the QCPD will uphold these principles and carry out their duties with the highest level of integrity," he said.
"To all our Barangay and SK candidates, I urge you to adhere to the laws, rules, and regulations set forth by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Let us collaborate to guarantee a peaceful and equitable Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in 2023," he added.
