The ongoing campaign period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) shouldn't be a reason for incumbent barangay officials to stop performing their duties.
Thus, said AnaKalusugan Party-list Rep. Ray Reyes as he reminded these barangay officials to continue dispensing services to their constituents.
"Paalala lang po sa ating mga incumbent barangay officials na kahit simula na ng campaign period sa Oct. 19, hindi pa rin natatapos ang kanilang trabaho sa barangay," Reyes said in a statement.
(To remind our incumbent barangay officials, the start of the campaign period last Oct. 19 doesn't mean that work in the barangay has ended.)
Reyes said that during the campaign period, incumbent barangay officials are still expected to deliver effective health and social services for their constituents.
He cited barangay officials and volunteers who assisted AnaKalusugan in launching their Free Flu and Anti-Pneumonia Vaccination Drive in Bauan, Batangas amid the busy campaign preparations. Village officials have also helped in preparations for similar vaccination drives lined up in other areas in Batangas, Bulaca, and Antique.
"Maraming salamat sa ating mga katuwang na barangay officials at volunteers na tumulong sa paglunsad ng ating vaccination drive. Sila ang mga huwarang lingkod bayan na inuuna ang serbisyo sa komunidad at sa kapwa," he added.
(Many thanks to our partner barangay officials and volunteers who helped us launch our vaccination drive. They are the role models of society who prioritize service to the community and their fellow men.)
"Napakahalaga po ng mga programa sa ating mga barangay lalo na ang health services at hindi po dapat maging hadlang ang pangangampanya sa pagbibigay ng karampatang serbisyo para sa ating mga kababayan," the neophyte lawmaker said.
(Our barangay-based programs are very important, especially health services. The campaign period shouldn't be a hindrance to providing ample service to our countrymen.)
Meanwhile, Reyes reiterated his support for just compensation for barangay officials
He said AnaKalusugan Party-list will continue to push for the passage of House Bill (HB) No.1829, which seeks to empower barangay health workers (BHWs) and provide them additional health benefits, compensation, and incentives.
The campaign period for the BSKE will end on Oct. 28.
