Palestine mulls charges vs Israel in ICJ — envoy

The Palestinian government would file cases against Israel if the bombing of a hospital in Gaza is proven to be perpetrated by the latter, its envoy to Manila said.

Palestinian Ambassador to the Philippines Saleh Mohammad said that the lives of the Palestinians matter and they are “not lesser than” those of Israelis’, so Palestine “will prosecute” Israel for its actions.

“Of course we will take it to the International Court of Justice,” Mohammad said in an interview with reporters Friday night.

“Our blood is not cheap. Our blood is very precious, and we will take it to the extreme,” he added.

Mohammad said the Palestinian Authority “will make sure” that Israel would not have an impunity over its supposed killings of civilians in Gaza, which is bearing the brunt of Israel’s retaliation against Hamas militants.

He said the Israeli government is allegedly “always getting accustomed of getting away with their crimes” and “always behave above the international law.”

“This time is not like other time. This time, we have to go to the extreme,” he said.

Mohammad said what Israel is doing now is no longer conducting self-defense, but a “genocide” and an “ethnic cleansing” of the Palestinian people.

“What you see now in Gaza, is this a [self] defense? The scenes of these people getting killed... [the] innocent people, this is what the world leaders authorized Israel to do," he said.

“This is not a war. This is genocide," he added.

Mohammad was doubtful that the release of hostages by Hamas, a condition set by Israel, would stop Israel from attacking Gaza. That’s now how conflict ends, he added.

Mohammad rather called for a collective and regional cooperation in addressing the root cause of the Israel-Hamas war, which stemmed from the displacement of the Palestinian people from their land.

He also warned that the war between the two sides now “has gone beyond,” posing threat to regional security. People in neighboring countries are getting “angry about the slaughter” of the Palestinian people, and the current situation is now tense, according to Mohammad.

He said the birth of a viable State of Palestine is the only way to settle the long-standing conflict.
