Paham is more than just your regular band from Taguig. In their first release under Off The Record and Sony Music Entertainment (SME), they’ve given us an interesting social commentary in the form of a song.
“Ganid” was released last Oct. 20, 2023, and was already playlisted on Spotify Philippines’ New Music Friday playlist. This six-piece band comprises Jascha, Kian, Yuan, Ryen, James, and Cymon, friends and schoolmates turned bandmates.
Listening to “Ganid'' transports us to a world where the bitter truth about the Filipino status quo gives us the chills. With lyrics like “Pagod na‘kong magtiis pambihira sa mundong punong puno ng taksil sakim at mandaraya”, Paham speaks up for the pent-up Filipino angst and presents themselves as the voice to the voiceless.

“Ganid is about people in positions they do not deserve.” One of the boys said in the interview. When we asked them how they came up with “Ganid,” they answered that it’s “...because of the band’s same perspective regarding the current system that is occurring, all of our rants turn into a song”
With what’s happening on the news, social media, and everything in the reality of the Filipino people, Paham made this their inspiration to write about the struggle of the ordinary Filipino. Produced by Ricky Ilacad of Off The Record, this new single sounds different from Paham’s early releases, where they talked more about love and relationships. They’ve recently performed at different schools and universities, as well as live shows and performances. Their recent performance was at Wishbus 107.5, where they performed one of their top songs, "Hiraya.”
When asked about their songwriting process on “Ganid,” Paham shares how they started after seeing the news.
“Upon hearing and seeing news around the social media, we want to discuss a social issue through writing this song. There is this specific time where we are in a room thinking of a chord progression, then all of a sudden, all the creativity and emotions add up to create this song.”
