DMW commits legal support in seeking justice for slain Pinay in Jordan
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has committed all out support in seeking justice for the slain Filipina household service worker who was killed in Amman, Jordan last week.
This, as the DMW announced that the remains of Mary Grace Santos are set to arrive on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21.
In a statement, the DMW said the case of Santos was already documented and elevated for court proceedings.
“The DMW is committing resources to support the case of the OFW to its final resolution and judgment,” the statement read.
Santos was first reported missing by her relatives in the Philippines. They then sought the assistance of the DMW which forwarded the concern to the Migrant Workers Office in Amman, Jordan (MWO-Amman) on Oct. 12.
After a search was conducted, her body was found in the basement of the building where she worked.
Based on the DMW data, an autopsy conducted showed the cause of death as strangulation.
“A suspect who admitted to committing the crime is already in the custody of Jordanian police. He is allegedly the teenage son of the building’s caretaker,” the DMW statement read.
DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the department, along with the Overseas Workers Welfare and Administration (OWWA), is now processing benefits due her family and beneficiaries.
